Sechenov University is the major medical educational and scientific institution in Russia aimed at undergraduate & postgraduate training, accreditation healthcare professionals promoting thus further advance of medical science and healthcare domestically and on a global scale.Today Sechenov University covers 3 main areas: education, research and healthcare.

The Faculty of Medicine is the oldest and largest faculty in the University. Today it is comprised of 45 chairs, teaching hospitals, and research laboratories.

The Faculty of Medicine provides undergraduate education in General Medicine. Graduates receive the degree of Medical Doctor. It is granted to medical students after the completion of their degree program, which lasts 6 years for full-time studies or 7 years in case of part-time studies. About 600 students graduate each year.

The Faculty of Medicine also provides postgraduate training. Depending on the branch of medicine, this can be a 1-year internship, 2-3-year residency or a combination of both.

Some chairs also offer PhD fellowships, with the PhD program lasting 3-4 years, as well as other doctoral programs.

The Faculty of Preventive Medicine was founded in 1930. It was one of the first schools in the world to provide training to hygienists and epidemiologists. Today the faculty is comprised of 25 chairs.

The Faculty of Preventive Medicine provides undergraduate education in Preventive Medicine. The degree is granted to students after the completion of their 6-year degree program. About 150 students graduate each year.

The Faculty of Preventive Medicine also provides postgraduate training: internship and residency.

Some chairs also offer PhD fellowships, with the PhD program lasting 3-4 years, and other doctoral programs.

The Faculty is headed by Prof. Yuri V. Nesvizhskiy, M.D., member of the Russian Academy of Medical and Technical Sciences.

The faculty includes professors, academicians and corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. Most faculty members have PhD or Doctor of Medicine research degrees.

Graduates usually pursue their careers in the Federal service on customers' rights protection and human well-being surveillance (Rospotrebnadzor), hospitals, epidemiology laboratories, and research institutes.

The Faculty of Postgraduate Professional Training of Physicians was founded in 1989. Today it is comprised of 40 chairs.

The Faculty provides postgraduate training (internship and residency) in almost every medical specialty. PhD and other doctoral programs are also available.

A large variety of continuing education programs are available, ranging from 72 to over 500 academic hours. Every year, over 7,500 of physicians study at the Faculty.

Center of Master's Programs was created in 2013 for training a new generation of leaders who can rationally manage a healthcare system in the context of modernization of the industry.

The needs of practical public health specialists with an intensive training in fundamental and applied disciplines in the field of health protection, public health organizations, management, economics and sociology of health, psychology of management in the country are extremely high.

The goal of the Center of Master's Programs is to provide of the high-quality educational services.

The development strategy of the Center of Master's Programs is to achieve a leading position in the training of highly qualified specialists in specific areas of science and practice.

Graduates of the Faculty of Dentistry receive the qualification of Doctor of Dentistry. The degree is granted to students after the completion of their 5-year full-time or part-time degree program. About 300 students are admitted annually.

Preparatory Department is a structural unit of the Dean's Office for international students. The history of the Department starts since the early 1960s, when future international students of the First Moscow Medical Institute and other HEIs of biomedical profile were enrolled to get training in the Russian language and core subjects of medical specialties. During these years the Department has created a wonderful tradition of assisting students not only in learning the Russian language but also in their adaptation in the new socio-cultural environment.

Training at the Preparatory Department is conducted in accordance with the programme of pre-university education for foreign nationals who are preparing to enter the universities of medico-biological profile for undergraduate studies, internship and residency. They are trained Russian as a foreign language, chemistry, biology and physics.

A special course "Language of the specialty" is offered to future interns and residents. Progress and knowledge acquired in all disciplines is controlled in the form of tests, control works and colloquiums.

In June the Preparatory Department students sit for final exams in the Russian language, chemistry and biology. On successful passing the examinations they receive a “Certificate of Completion of Preparatory Department for international students”, which gives an advantage when enrolling for undergraduate education at I.M. Sechenov First MSMU over other applicants who have scored equal points in entrance tests, but do not have such a certificate.

Training period: from 1 October to 30 June.

Application: from 28 August to 30 September.

Documents to be submitted to enroll in the Preparatory Department according to “Rules for admission to the Preparatory Department for international students”:

- personal application;

- copy of International passport with notarized translation into Russian;

- copy of the entry visa to the Russian Federation, if a foreign national arrived in Russia on visa;

- notarized copy of the Certificate of complete secondary education of national standard, certified in the prescribed manner;

- certified translation into the Russian language of the education Certificate and its annexes (if provided by the laws of the state in which the document was issued);

- 6 passport-size matte photos.

All translations must be performed in the name specified in the visa.

The Faculty of Pharmacy was established in 1936. Today it is comprised of 17 chairs.

The Faculty of Pharmacy provides undergraduate education in Pharmacy, Biotechnology and Bioengineering&Bioinformatics. The degree in Pharmacy is granted to students after the completion of their degree program, which lasts 5 years in full-time, part-time or distance learning arrangements. The full-time degree program in Bioengineering&Bioinformatics lasts 5 years. About 300 students graduate each year.

The Faculty of Pharmacy also provides postgraduate training (1-year internship) in pharmacoeconomics and management, pharmaceutical technology, pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmacognosy.

The Faculty of Pharmacy also offers PhD fellowships, with the PhD program lasting 3-4 years, other doctoral programs and continuing education courses.

The Faculty of Higher Nursing Training, Psychology and Social Work was the first school in Russia to provide graduate programs for nurses. It was founded in 1991. Today the Faculty is comprised of 4 chairs.

The Faculty provides undergraduate education in Nursing. Graduates receive bachelor’s degree. This program lasts 3 years (for certified nurses) or 4 years and can be provided on a full-time, part-time or distance learning arrangement.

The Faculty also provides bachelor’s degrees in Social Work after completion of a 4-year full-time degree program and a degree in Clinical Psychology after completion of a 5.5-year full-time program.

Graduates can pursue their careers as chief nurses, educators and experts in other fields.

The Faculty is headed by Ass. Prof. Natalya A. Kasimovskaya, M.D.

The faculty includes corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Education, most faculty members have PhD or Doctor of Medicine research degrees.

Accommodation is arranged on a sharing basis (2-4 in a room) in three hostels. All apartments are well-equipped with all basic conveniences.
