Since its founding in 1974, Dostoevsky Omsk State University has earned reputation as a leader in a polyfunctional research, teaching, and cultural complex. Ranked the best university in our region and one of the best universities on the list of "100 best Universities of Russia", Omsk State University is home to excellence in teaching and advanced research. Dostoevsky OmSU embraces its connections to the world and develops international relations with the universities of the USA, Mexico, Europe, The United Kingdom, China, Kazakhstan and other countries. Such cooperation led to the establishment of the Centers for Chinese, Kazakh and Ibero-American Studies which in its turn flows into the development of study and research abroad programs that provide the opportunity to do an independent study or research project in a foreign country. Dostoevsky OmSU is a classical university that offers a range of programs not only in law, humanities and natural sciences but also in theology, culture and arts. The combination of art and technology helped shape the notion of the university as a place of both science and creativity. With more than 8,817 graduate and undergraduate students, including about 600 international, 540 full-time professors and 14 faculties, the University offers 101 degree programs and awards about 1798 new degrees each spring.
In summer 2007, the Institute of Mathematical Science and Information Technology was established on the basis of Mathematics Faculty, the University Internet Center and the Omsk Regional Information Center. The Institute is equipped with modern computer classes, a network laboratory and latest technologies helping students avail a successful computer training and certification from the institute. A student design bureau works here as well.
Faculty of Physics places great importance on engaging students in conducting research work. By the completion of the study, the majority of students have participated in student conferences; have published their articles in various scientific journals and authored conference materials. Having completed a four-year study, degree is awarded to students upon completion of academic requirements and defence of their theses. Students can also study at Master's level or graduate program.
The mission of the Faculty of Chemistry is to develop well-educated graduates for industrial, scientific and educational activities in accordance with the State education standards, the needs of the labour market and the advances of science. Students of the faculty participate in scientific conferences, Olympiads, demonstrate complex cognitive skills while doing extracurricular activities and organize holidays and outings.
Faculty of History is one of the oldest faculties in the university. The first students were enrolled in the field of study "History" in 1974, Dostoevsky OmSU's founding date. At the faculty there is the University Scientific Society, the Student Council, the Movie Club "24 Frames", the football teams. Classes are taught by highly qualified teachers, among them 14 Doctors of Science, 74 Candidates of Science.
Currently, the Faculty of Psychology includes Chairs of Applied Psychology and General Psychology. The training on specialized fields of "Psychology" with specializations "Social Psychology" and "Educational psychology" is conducted also at the faculty. Distance learning and a joint Comprehensive Program by schools and the pre-university education at University are also offered. The faculty provides a unique opportunity of distance learning at institutes of higher education in the United States for students of the faculty. There soon will be a chance for talented young specialists to continue their education at the post-graduate levels on specialized fields of "General Psychology", "Psychology of Personality" and "History of Psychology". One of the essential features of the Faculty of Psychology at Dostoevsky OmSU is the implementation of the best educational traditions in training of psychologists. This is the only such a faculty in the Omsk city.
Faculty of Law at Dostoevsky OmSU is best known as the leading center for training lawyers in the region. Graduates work in legislative and executive authorities, in law enforcement bodies (courts, public prosecutor’s offices, police), in legal services of enterprises and organizations based on various forms of ownership. Students participate in scientific seminars, conferences and round tables; they win in inter-university tournaments and Olympiads in jurisprudence.
The faculty offers classical university education in combination with the latest trends in professional training. Students have the opportunity to choose the most-sought specialties, many of which exist at the intersection of multiple specialties; receive a diploma that is highly appreciated by most employers; and also immerse themselves in a bright, busy student life, stay connected to campus activities and make lifelong friends.
The faculty offers two bachelor's degree programs "Linguistics: Theory and methodology of teaching foreign languages and cultures" and "Translation and Translation studies", as well as a master's degree program "Practice and Linguadidactics of professionally oriented translation". As the second foreign language students can choose either German, Spanish, French or Chinese. Learning of one of these languages is mandatory and included in the curriculum. Students can learn other languages at Linguistic Centre other than those mentioned above. Not only have students the opportunity to go abroad and study at partner Universities in the framework of Academic Mobility but they can also study with native foreign language teachers at OmSU.
The Faculty was established in 2012 and brings together 3 Chairs: Theology and World cultures, Philosophy, Social work, Pedagogy and Psychology. The high level of education allows students to take part in International and All-Russian scientific conferences in Prague, Kielce, Saint-Petersburg, Moscow, Ekaterinburg, Novosibirsk and other leading scientific centers of the country. Graduates are engaged in post-graduate programs, work in educational institutions, on the radio and on television, in editorial offices of newspapers and magazines, at the Ministry of Government of the Omsk region.
The Faculty of Culture and Arts is the only educational center for training of highly qualified specialists in the field of arts and culture. Audiences in the finest concert halls of Italy, Poland, Austria and many other countries are impressed by our students and graduates' performances. Our graduates' talents are now acknowledged in Russia as well as internationally which helps young artists enter into the world of artistic careers.
Faculty of Economics is the leader at training specialists in the field of economics in the region, including highly qualified specialists in the area of finance, accounting, taxes, management, personnel management, project management, state and municipal management, business information technology. High quality education at the Faculty of Economics is measured by the achievements of its graduates.. Our graduates successfully make a career in the largest companies in Russia and in the world. In the building of the Faculty of Economics, there is sports and recreational complex with gym and the swimming pool that is 25 meters in width. Funny and resourceful students organized their KVN team (the TV humour show "Club of the Funny and Inventive People"). Students study the following disciplines at the faculty: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, World Economy, Organization Theory, Management, Marketing, Finance, Banking, Accounting, Tax and taxation, Business planning, Economic Analysis, Financial Management, Personnel management, Project management, Regional economy and management, State and municipal service.
The faculty combines the achievements of Western business schools with the traditions of the Russian classical university education. Graduates of the faculty are proficient in several foreign languages; are knowledgeable of the economic laws of modern business, marketing and advertising; well versed in economic and mathematical principles. The faculty maintains links with the best universities and business schools in the US, Great Britain, Germany, Czech Republic, Australia and other countries.
The Faculty of Computer Science was founded on May 1st, 2003 on the basis of the department of computer science that had been established on April 1st, 2001 at the Faculty of Physics. The faculty prepares students to become professionals in the sphere of the Computer Security, Information Security, Informatics and Computer Engineering, Networking and Telecommunications, Applied Informatics, Sociology, Sociology of Management, Mathematics and Computer Science.
The faculty prepares Bachelor students and Master students in Adaptive (for persons with deviations of the health condition) Physical Education, The classes are taught by highly experienced, certified teachers, among them 4 Doctors of Science and 5 Candidates of Science, masters of sports and masters of sports of the international class (sports champions and international sports champions). Our graduates can provide services on lots of massage types (total classic massage, therapeutic massage); hydro rehabilitation; therapeutic, diagnostic and health programs for persons with deviations of the health condition; fitness programs; can organize various sports competitions, festivals, active leisure at institutions of various orientation.
In order to apply for a degree program at Dostoevsky OmSU, you should follow these steps:
- notary-certified copy of identity document – officially translated to the Russian language;
- notary-certified copy of a diploma or other education document issued by a foreign higher education institution - officially translated to the Russian language;
- notary-certified copy of a diploma supplement (including a transcript of completed subjects/courses) or a certified copy of a transcript of completed subjects/courses and passed exams - officially translated to the Russian language;
- 4 passport size photos (3 X 4)

*Applicants who do not have knowledge of Russian to a degree sufficient for study in their chosen degree program can get enrolled at a Preparatory program. They will spend one year studying Russian, as well as several profession-oriented subjects depending on the chosen field of their study.
Foreign students of Dostoevsky Omsk State University can either live in a University dormitory or rent an apartment.
The University dormitory
There are two nine-story dormitory buildings located at 9/1 Prigorodnaya St. and 9/2 Prigorodnaya St. It is only a 10-minute walk from the dormitory to the main University building and a 5-minute walk to the International Relations Office; they are situated very close to other academic buildings with the faculty of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Social Sciences, History, Philology, and Foreign Languages.
Dormitory rooms are equipped with furniture (desks, single beds, closets).
There are two wash-hand-basins, a bathroom shower cubicle, toilet in a corridor shared between 4 rooms and a kitchen on each floor. There is a self-service laundry in the dormitory.
Renting an apartment
Another option for accommodation is renting an apartment in a town. It is way more expensive than living in a dormitory. The prices may vary from 12000 to 20000 rubles per month, plus nominal fee for utilities. You can look for the apartment on your own or you can ask International Office staff for help as well.

University Dormitory (1 place in a shared room for 4 people, bathroom that includes shower stall, sink and a toilet as well as a kitchenette are on each floor) - 700 rubles per month

A definition of successful youth needs to include not only a high-quality education, sports achievements or creative successes but also educational environment that develops the person aesthetically, refines good taste and has a great impact on how they spend their leisure time.
Traditional student events that the faculty organizes include the week of physics, the week of mathematics, the week of chemistry and others. Students of Dostoevsky OmSU as well as prospective students take part in these events. The purpose of these events is to engage organizers (students of the faculties at Dostoevsky OmSU) in planning, developing and conducting themed events so that all the students would be able to actively participate.
Student Council at Dostoevsky OmSU is an elective body of student government at Dostoevsky OmSU. The mission of the Student Council at Dostoevsky OmSU is to satisfy educational, social and leisure demands of students, build the skills of self-management. The main principle is to legitimacy and carrying responsibility for the activities before the student community. The Student Council at Dostoevsky OmSU includes the representatives of the faculties of the university. The chairman of the Student Council at Dostoevsky OmSU represents students' interests in relationships with the administration and university administration.
Students of Dostoevsky OmSU annually successfully pass a serious competitive selection and become members and representatives of the Omsk region delegations at all-Russian and international events as volunteers and/or participants:
